Fever

Last week was a bit more exciting than we would have liked.  It was Troy's first week back to work, but fortunately Ethan and I had my mom in town for the week to help out.  We would end up needing the extra help more than we expected.  On Thursday morning (10/24) our sweet little boy had a fever and the pediatrician sent us to Dell Children's Hospital to have him checked out.  This is apparently how they routinely handle fever in babies under a month old.  That visit was traumatizing for us all- Ethan had to have a catheder to collect a urine sample, have blood drawn, have a spinal tap to collect spinal fluid and have an IV to receive antibiotics.  After much poking and proding and an overnight stay we were able to return home Friday evening.  The doctors said the fluids they collected were free of bacteria so his fever was related to a stomach virus most likely.  On Monday, we followed-up with his regular pediatrician and he got a good bill of health.  We are so happy that is behind us, but are thankful for all the precautionary measures they take to ensure our baby's health!

He is a trooper.. here are a few pics of him looking cute as ever at the hospital!

Welcome Ethan!

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our perfect baby BOY, Ethan Parker Matus, born October 3, 2011.  He weighed 7 lbs, 2 oz and measured 19.5 inches long.  He joined our family exactly two weeks before his official due date and we are thrilled to have met him slightly ahead of schedule!

The birth didn't go exactly as we had planned, but we know that few things in life go according to plan.  My water broke Sunday morning October 2.  As first time parents we weren't even certain my water had broken so we went up to the hospital just to check... we had a to-do list a mile long and we were convinced we would go in, get checked out, and be on our way to finish our errands.  To our surprise, we would not leave the hospital without our little one!  I was induced Sunday evening at 10:00pm since labor hadn't started on its own and our son was born at 5:40am on Monday.  Troy did get to announce the gender of our baby which was very special and he also got to cut the umbilical cord.

We are thoroughly enjoying the journey of parenthood and can not imagine life without our sweet little boy!

Three. More. Weeks.

This week we have been busy running errands and tackling a very long to-do list in preparation for the arrival of our precious little one.  We have accomplished a lot, but still have a number of things we need to get done so we undoubtedly have another busy weekend ahead of us and then hopefully some time to rest before the big day.

The baby continues to be very active throughout the day and night and we have been reading to him/her most evenings before bed.  We can not wait to meet the newest addition to our family!

4 MORE!

As of yesterday we have just 4 more weeks until our baby's due date.  Today we had our first weekly baby check-up and all looks well.  We will go every Tuesday until the due date or our baby's arrival... which ever comes first.  If the baby does not makes its debut by October 17th, we will start going twice a week- hopefully that doesn't happen!

We received our glider this last weekend and it is so soft and comfy!  We now have all of the furniture for the nursery... we have just a few finishing touches left to get the nursery ready then I'll post some pictures.  A HUGE thank you to my mom for getting things off the floor and organized this past weekend!!!  :)

Get excited! Only 5 to go...

We are getting so excited as the days and weeks pass by and our baby's arrival gets closer and closer.  I can't believe our long awaited due date is in just 5 weeks!  When we found out I was pregnant, October seemed so far away and now its right around the corner!!!

This week's update... baby should weigh somewhere around 5 to 6 lbs and be 18 to 20 inches long.  Tomorrow we have our last baby shower thrown by our colleagues at work and then this weekend we will start trying to get the nursery in order and take inventory of what we still need to get before baby arrives.

Now for some photos...

If you want to take a look, go to her portrait website--> http://lisawoodsphotography.com/site2/index2.php

Then you need to click on "Clients" at the bottom of the page.  The password to get into the gallery is "autumn"

We should have the digital images soon as well.  Happy Thursday!

Showered with Love

This weekend the lovely Paula and Seanna hosted a baby shower for me.  Thank you to our friends and family who made the trip for the shower... it was a great time and this baby got lots of fun stuff!  We feel so fortunate.  Paula and Seanna did a great job with the party, the food was delicious and the games were fun.  A special thank you to Katie for the beautiful and delectible cake!  Here are a few photos from the shower...

This weekend was just perfect... we also really enjoyed the extra day off work and the cooler weather!  We are sad that the long weekend has come and gone so quickly but are looking forward to our own fast approaching labor day!!!  This marks the 34th week... only 6 more to go!

Today we had our regular baby check-up and all looks well, so we go back in two more weeks.  This weekend is my birthday so I am definitely looking forward to that.  We have been so busy lately that I haven't had time for the anticipation to build as it normally does, but I am getting excited now!  Troy and I will celebrate Friday night and we will celebrate with my mom and Cliff on Saturday.  I am so happy that they are coming down again this weekend to help get things organized and bring down our glider... right now the nursery is a disaster!

Until next week... xoxo, Autumn & Troy
